Frequently asked questions

Short sleeve or long sleeve knitted polo?

Short sleeve in cotton from May to September, long sleeve in cashmere for the rest of the year. The cotton polo is the one for a hot day in the city or a dinner on holiday, worn with linen or knitted cotton pants. The cashmere polo replaces both shirt and sweater at the office in winter and can be worn over a t-shirt or directly on the skin.

Does a knitted polo collar lose its shape?

Not if you dry it flat. A knitted collar stretches when the polo hangs wet on a hanger, so wash it, press the water out in a towel and lay it flat with the collar folded down. Stored folded in the wardrobe, the collar keeps its line for years. This goes for both the cotton and the cashmere polos.

Does a cashmere polo itch?

No. Cashmere fibres are much finer than ordinary wool, so they bend against the skin instead of poking it. That is why the long sleeve cashmere polo can be worn directly on the skin with the top button open, even by people who find wool sweaters itchy. If you prefer a layer, a plain Avenue T underneath works well.

Knitted polo or polo sweater, what is the difference?

The knitted polo is thinner and worn like a shirt, with short sleeves in cotton or long sleeves in cashmere. The polo sweater, like our Wool Cashmere Polo in 90 % merino wool and 10 % cashmere, is a full sweater with a polo collar and buttons at the neck, warm enough for winter. Take the polo for spring and summer and the polo sweater for the cold months.

Which size should I choose in a knitted polo?

Your usual size. Our polos have a regular fit that follows the body without being tight, and the collar should lie flat with the top button closing without pulling. Go one size up only if you want a looser fit through the body. Knitted cotton and cashmere both give a little with wear, so there is no need to size up to be safe.

Polos

Knitted polo shirts for men

A knitted polo sits between a t-shirt and a shirt. It has the collar and the buttons, but it is knitted rather than woven, so it is softer, moves with you and does not need ironing. Ours come with short sleeves in knitted cotton for summer and with long sleeves in cashmere for the colder half of the year. The knit is what makes a polo look right under a blazer where a jersey polo would not. Every polo is designed in Stockholm, like everything else on the site.

Cotton or cashmere, short or long sleeve

The short sleeve cotton polo is the summer one. Knitted cotton is cooler than wool and softer than a woven shirt, and it goes with linen pants on holiday as well as with knitted cotton pants at a relaxed office. The long sleeve cashmere polo replaces a shirt and a sweater at once from October to April, worn over a t-shirt or directly against the skin with the top button open. If you want the look of a polo collar on a full sweater, see the Wool Cashmere Polo in 90 % merino wool and 10 % cashmere on our polo sweaters page. For a plain base layer under either, the Avenue T in cotton does the job.

Fit and care

Our polos have a regular fit that follows the body without being tight, with the shoulder seam on the shoulder and the hem at the belt. Choose your usual size. The collar should lie flat and the top button should close without pulling. Cotton polos go in the machine at 30 degrees and are laid flat to dry, so the collar keeps its line. Cashmere polos are washed on a wool programme or by hand, dried flat and folded rather than hung, so the shoulders do not stretch.
