Frequently asked questions

Which knitted sweater is warmest?

Cashmere is the warmest for its weight, followed by our wool and cashmere blends, then merino. For a Swedish winter under a coat, all three work. For the coldest days, choose cashmere or a chunky wool and cashmere knit.

Can I wear a knitted sweater to the office?

Yes. A crewneck or half zip in merino or cashmere over a shirt is the simplest office outfit there is, and it works under a blazer when the day calls for it. Choose a dark colour for the most formal look.

How often should I wash a knitted sweater?

Rarely. Wool and cashmere are naturally resistant to odour, so airing the sweater overnight is usually enough. Wash it a few times a season on a wool programme at 30 degrees or by hand, and dry flat.

Knitted sweaters for men

Brown Avenue makes knitted sweaters for men in three materials: 100 % Royal Cashmere, Cashfeel Merino and blends of wool and cashmere. Every sweater is designed in Stockholm and knitted to be worn for years, not seasons. Clean lines, no logos, and a fit that works over a shirt as well as a t-shirt.

Which sweater should you choose?

A crewneck is the sweater you wear most. It works over a shirt at the office and with a t-shirt at the weekend. A half zip gives you a collar and a little more structure. A hoodie in cashmere or merino is the relaxed option that still looks considered. For something a bit dressier, a polo sweater with buttons at the neck replaces the shirt. A cardigan opens at the front and does the job of a sweater and a jacket at once.

Cashmere, merino or a blend?

Cashmere is the softest and warmest, and the lightest for its warmth. Merino wool breathes, keeps its shape and takes daily wear. Our wool and cashmere blends sit in between, with the softness of cashmere and the strength of wool, at a lower price than pure cashmere. The material is listed on every product, together with care instructions.

Does a knitted sweater itch?

Not ours. Ordinary wool itches because the fibres are thick. Royal Cashmere fibres are 15.2 microns and Cashfeel Merino uses extra fine fibres, both fine enough to bend against the skin instead of poking it. That is why you can wear our sweaters without a shirt underneath.

How a sweater should fit

Close to the body without being tight. The shoulder seam sits on the shoulder, the sleeve ends at the wrist and the hem at the belt. Choose your usual size. If you want a more relaxed look, go one size up. A sweater that fits this way looks right over a shirt, under a blazer and on its own.

How to care for a knitted sweater

Air it between wears, natural fibres rarely need washing. When it does, use a wool programme at 30 degrees or wash by hand, dry flat and fold it rather than hang it. Remove any pilling with a wool comb. A sweater cared for this way lasts for many years and looks better with age.
