Frequently asked questions

Cardigan or overshirt?

Cardigan if the layer stays on all day, overshirt if it has to look like a jacket. A cardigan in Cashfeel Merino or wool and cashmere wears like a sweater you can open, and the heavier 7 gauge versions replace a jacket in autumn. An overshirt in Milano knit holds a shirt jacket shape, so buttoned up it passes at a dinner or a meeting.

Knitted shirt or overshirt, which one should I choose?

The knitted shirt for spring and summer evenings, the overshirt for autumn and winter. Both have a shirt collar and buttons, but the knitted shirt is a thinner 12 gauge knit worn open over a t-shirt, while the overshirt is denser, holds its shape and takes the place of a light jacket. If you want one layer for most of the year, the overshirt covers more months.

Should I go up a size to wear a sweater underneath?

No, not for a shirt or a t-shirt. Both cardigans and overshirts have a regular fit cut with room for a shirt, so your usual size is right for how they are meant to be worn. Go one size up only if you plan to layer a thick crewneck under an overshirt in winter. With a cardigan, a thin merino sweater fits under your usual size.

Do cardigans and overshirts lose their shape on a hanger?

Yes, over time, so store them folded. A knitted garment hung on a hanger stretches at the shoulders and grows longer, and a wet one does it in a day. Dry cardigans and overshirts flat with zips closed and buttons done, then fold them in the wardrobe. The Milano knit in the overshirts holds its shape better than a plain knit, but folding is still the safer habit.

Cardigans & Overshirts

Cardigans and overshirts for men

The layer between the sweater and the coat. On this page you find our cardigans, knitted in Cashfeel Merino, in wool and cashmere and in cotton: zip cardigans with a stand collar, cardigans with a shawl collar or a bomber collar, a knitted shirt with buttons, and heavier versions with a padded nylon front or a suede front for the cold months. Next to them sit our overshirts: knitted shirt jackets in Cashfeel Merino with a shirt collar and buttons down the front, and a knitted blazer in the same yarn with notch lapels and patch pockets. Everything is designed in Stockholm and sold in our store on Grev Turegatan.

Cardigan or overshirt

The cardigan is the softer layer. It is worn like a sweater you can open, over a t-shirt at home or over a shirt at the office, and a zip cardigan or a shawl cardigan in a 7 gauge knit is warm enough to replace a jacket in October. Choose a cardigan when the layer stays on all day and comfort matters more than structure. The overshirt is the sharper layer. The Milano knit gives it the shape of a shirt jacket, the collar frames a t-shirt or a shirt underneath, and buttoned up it passes where a cardigan looks too relaxed, at a dinner or a meeting. Choose an overshirt when you want the look of a jacket with the feel of a sweater. A knitted shirt cardigan sits between the two: thinner than an overshirt, with a shirt collar, worn open over a t-shirt in spring. If you buy one piece, take a merino overshirt for spring and autumn, then add a heavier cardigan for winter.

Fit and care

Both cardigans and overshirts have a regular fit cut to sit over a shirt or a t-shirt, so choose your usual size. Go one size up only if you want to layer a thick sweater underneath. Air the garment between wears, wash on a wool programme at 30 degrees or by hand with zips closed and buttons done, dry flat and store it folded, since a hanger stretches the shoulders of a knit.
