Frequently asked questions

Does merino wool itch?

Not this merino. Ordinary wool itches because the fibres are thick enough to poke the skin. Cashfeel Merino is an extra fine merino wool, and the fibres bend against the skin instead, so a crewneck or hoodie in it can be worn over bare skin or a t-shirt. If you are very sensitive at the neck, a plain t-shirt underneath is all you need.

Does merino wool shrink in the wash?

Not on a wool programme at 30 degrees or by hand, dried flat. Merino shrinks when heat and agitation meet, so the risk is a normal cotton programme at 40 degrees or the tumble dryer. Washed as a wool garment, a Cashfeel Merino sweater keeps its size wash after wash. It rarely needs washing at all, since merino resists odour and airing overnight is usually enough.

Merino or cashmere?

Merino if the sweater will be worn every week, cashmere if you want the softest and warmest. Cashfeel Merino is lighter, breathes better, takes more washing and works from spring to autumn, which is why we knit crewnecks, half zips, hoodies, cardigans and overshirts in it. Royal Cashmere is softer and warmer and the one for cold evenings and dinners.

Is merino warm enough for winter?

Under a coat, yes. Cashfeel Merino is a light knit, and merino holds warmth for its weight, so a crewneck or hoodie with a coat on top is comfortable on a cold day in the city. On its own it is a sweater for autumn and spring, not January outdoors. For more warmth without a coat, a 7 gauge cardigan or a wool and cashmere sweater is the next step.

Merino

Merino wool for men: crewnecks, half zips, hoodies, cardigans and overshirts

Everything on this page is knitted in Cashfeel Merino, our extra fine merino wool. The fibres are fine enough to wear against the skin and spun to a yarn with a smooth hand and natural elasticity, so the sweater keeps its shape year after year. We knit it in a 12 gauge plain knit as merino crewnecks and merino half zips, as a merino hoodie with a soft hood and drawstrings, in a Milano knit as knitted shirts and overshirts with a collar and buttons, and in a heavier 7 gauge as zip and bomber cardigans. Designed in Stockholm and sold in our store on Grev Turegatan.

Merino or cashmere, and which merino piece for which day

Merino wool breathes, adapts to temperature and resists odour, which is why a merino sweater can be worn several days in a row and aired overnight in between. Next to cashmere it is lighter, tougher and takes more washing. Next to cotton it is warmer for its weight and keeps its shape better. Choose merino for the sweater you wear every week, and cashmere for the softest and warmest one for cold evenings. Within merino, the crewneck is the office sweater under a blazer, the half zip the one that looks dressed on its own, and the Cashfeel Merino Hoodie the layer over a t-shirt from March to November. A knitted shirt or overshirt in Milano knit is the piece between sweater and coat in spring and autumn, and a 7 gauge cardigan such as the Cashfeel Merino Zip Cardigan does the job of a light jacket indoors in winter. Is merino warm enough for winter? Under a coat, yes. On its own it is a sweater for autumn and spring.

Fit and care

Our merino pieces have a regular fit that sits close without being tight, so choose your usual size. The hoodie is cut a little more relaxed. Air the sweater after wearing. When it needs a wash, use a wool programme at 30 degrees or wash by hand, dry flat and fold it. Heat and tumbling are what shrink merino, so keep it out of the tumble dryer and off the cotton programme.
